Laundry hampers split into a few genuinely different categories — collapsible fabric baskets that fold flat for storage, woven hampers with a lid for a more furniture-like look, and multi-bag sorters for households that separate loads by color. The picks below cover each of those styles so the right choice depends on how you actually do laundry, not just capacity. Buying tip: check the liner material if you’re choosing a woven or wire-frame hamper — a removable, washable liner matters more for long-term usability than the hamper’s exterior material.
Lifewit Large Collapsible Laundry Hamper
Lifewit’s hamper is a soft-sided, collapsible basket that folds flat when not in use, which makes it a practical choice for small closets, dorm rooms, or anyone who needs to store it out of sight between loads. It comes in large capacities (commonly 75-105 liters) and is built from a waterproof-treated fabric with reinforced carry handles for hauling a full load to the laundry room.
It’s a strong fit for apartments and college housing where closet space is limited, and for anyone who wants a hamper that doesn’t become a permanent fixture of bedroom furniture. The tradeoff versus rigid hampers is less structure — it can tip or slump when only partially full.
Simple Houseware Heavy-Duty 3-Bag Laundry Sorter
This sorter uses three separate removable bags on a single wheeled frame, designed specifically for households that sort laundry by color or fabric type before washing. Each bag lifts out independently for carrying to the machine, and the frame rolls, which matters for multi-load households moving heavier sorted laundry across a house or down to a shared laundry room.
It’s the clear pick for anyone who currently sorts laundry into separate piles on the floor and wants a single piece of furniture-like storage that keeps those piles contained and portable. It takes up more floor space than a single hamper, which matters in smaller laundry areas.
Seville Classics Handwoven Oval Hamper
Seville Classics’ hamper trades the gym-bag look of fabric hampers for a handwoven, basket-style design with a lid, intended to double as a piece of bedroom or bathroom decor rather than something to hide in a closet. It typically includes a removable liner bag for easy emptying and washing, while the woven exterior holds its shape better than soft collapsible hampers.
It’s a good fit for bedrooms or bathrooms where the hamper sits in view rather than tucked away, and for buyers who specifically want something that looks more like furniture than laundry equipment. It costs more than basic fabric hampers and is less compact for storage.
Household Essentials Double Hamper with Sorter
This model splits capacity into two compartments on one frame, aimed at two-load households that want to separate lights and darks (or two family members’ laundry) without buying two separate hampers. It’s built with a lighter wire or canvas frame rather than premium materials, keeping the price in the budget-to-mid range for a sorter-style hamper.
It’s a practical pick for couples or roommates who each want their own compartment, or for anyone doing a basic two-way color sort without needing the three-bag capacity of a full laundry sorter. It’s bulkier than a single hamper, so it needs more dedicated floor or closet space.
For tight storage, the Lifewit collapsible hamper folds away completely between loads, while the Simple Houseware 3-bag sorter is the better fit for anyone already sorting laundry into multiple piles. If the hamper needs to look presentable in a bedroom or bathroom, the Seville Classics woven hamper is the stronger pick, and the Household Essentials double hamper covers basic two-way sorting without the cost or footprint of a full three-bag system.
